Mercedes EQV Camper: the first electric camper van

New and used Mercedes vans are the perfect base on which to build your own camper. They are robust, reliable and versatile vehicles that can become a perfect motor home for your next vacation. There are also official alternatives, such as the Mercedes Marco Polo, which already offers everything you need to camp wherever you want. And now a new concept is emerging, that of electric campers thanks to the new Mercedes EQV Camper.

The Mercedes EQV is considered to be the 100% electric variant of the versatile and comfortable Mercedes V-Class. Combining the characteristics of the V-Class with an electric propulsion system offers a multitude of advantages in terms of efficiency and cost savings, which can be experienced by both companies and private users. And it is also the perfect basis on which to develop a fully equipped and customized electric camper van.

The first Mercedes electric camper

The first electric Mercedes camper is the work of the Swiss company Sortimo Walter Rüegg PLC. It is an official conversion carried out as a collaboration between Mercedes Benz and motorhome and camper van specialist Sortimo. It is also one of the first eCamper in the electric van segment and is marketed as a two-bill transaction.

"The motorhome market is of strategic importance to Mercedes Benz Vans. We want to continue to grow here and play a pioneering role in terms of innovation and sustainability. It is clear to us: the future is electric, also in the motorhome industry!". Klaus Rehkugler, Head of Sales and Marketing at Mercedes Benz Vans.

Based on the 100% electric Mercedes EQV, Sortimo has installed a series of additional components and equipment that have made it possible to "camperize" the van. Thus, the new Mercedes EQV Camper includes a lift-up roof, a bed in the rear and a kitchen module in the trunk compartment. All this is possible thanks to the unbeatable features inherited from the Mercedes Benz V-Class.

Electric trucks: Mercedes EQV, the perfect basis for a new range of electric trucks

Mercedes Benz Vans has a firm policy of aiming for leadership in the field of electromobility and is systematically electrifying all model series. This includes the brand's range of commercial vehicles, with the new eCitan, eVito and eSprinter. The portfolio, which is already available on the market, also includes the EQV, the battery-electric equivalent of the mid-size van, the V-Class. This desire materialized in 2020 with the launch of the 100% electric Mercedes EQV.

The EQV van is available with two different battery variants: the EQV 300 with a 90 kWh battery and a range of 326-363 km; and the EQV 250 with a 60 kWh battery and a range of 213-236 km, according to the WLTP type-approval cycle. Both models base their propulsion system on an electric motor with 150 kW (204 hp) of power and a maximum torque of 362 Nm.

Both the EQV 300 and EQV 250 are offered in two body lengths: long at 5,140 mm and extra-long at 5,370 mm. Their propulsion system supports fast charging, which, in the EQV 300, allows them to go from 10% to 80% of the battery level in approximately 45 minutes.

In this way, the Mercedes EQV offers a wide range of applications for a wide variety of customer needs. Its technical features also make it locally emission-free, even more recently for van users, as shown by Sortimo Walter Rüegg PLC together with Mercedes Benz Vans in the new Mercedes EQV Camper.

Specialist bodybuilder Sortimo presents a modular conversion for the new EQV. Features installed by the Swiss company include a lift-up roof with bed inside and a multifunction box with bed and kitchen unit for the rear of the van. The kitchen unit uses a drawer system and features a sink and a two-burner pull-out gas stove. There is also a refrigerator compartment and several drawers for cutlery, cooking utensils and supplies.

On the other hand, the bed system is installed on top of the kitchen cabinet. This can be folded out in a few simple steps to create a seating area that precisely matches the width of the EQV van. When folded down, the rear seats can be used without restriction, expanding the seating capacity to 8 passengers.

Sortimo has installed two solar panels with a total output of around 400 volts on the lifting roof. These panels fitted to the Mercedes EQV Camper can be installed on request, are particularly lightweight and ensure additional self-sufficiency. They are responsible for charging the starter battery as well as the auxiliary camping unit.

Other equipment includes blacked-out rear windows, interior lighting for the rear compartment, integrated USB ports and swivel seats for the driver and front passenger. All of these camping modules have been designed for lightweight construction. This is especially important in electric vehicles, where every kilo saved translates into increased range.

The Mercedes EQV Camper is now available through the services of the Swiss bodybuilder Sortimo Walter Rüegg PLC. Discover more models of Mercedes vans in Concesur Group.
